Football is a Season? My foot!

After almost nine years of marriage, and more than that all together with dating, there also have been that many football "seasons." I don't know how I have been deluded all this time into thinking that there are actually seasons of football! That word is ingenious in perpetuating the conspiracy that there are actually football seasons. A season implies something with a beginning and an end. Webster's definition is "a time marked by particular activities or celebrations." After considering off-season, spring training, summer weight training, 7 on 7 leagues, summer camps, preparing for the season, coaching school, coaches' retreat, "football season," I realize that I have been duped. Football is year round. Since Mark has informed me that our retirement years will be marked by the continuation of his coaching career, I am realizing that there is no end to the perpetual world of football. What I have also realized in all of this is that this is our season. After dealing with the feeling of being duped all of these years, I have come to the conclusion that it is better to embrace it than to fight it. I will embrace it because when I embrace the idea that this is our life, I allow the freedom to embrace "a time marked by particular activities or celebrations." Our life is a season, a season of celebrations. What is not to love about that?

Makenna helps Daddy at 7 on 7.
Makenna loves playing with Bryler. They play so well together. Thank goodness for other coaches' kids!
Saturday evening Bret's parents hosted a graduation/going away party for him before he heads off to Arkansas. Makenna was mesmerized by this little girl at the party. They had so much fun. Bryler was also there, so Makenna loved getting to see him again.

Please check out these pictures in sequence. This little boy brought his battery powered Cadillac Escalade to the party. Makenna got into the car from Bryler's side and then proceeded to kick the driver out of the vehicle, making room for her to drive. The funny thing was, he just let her! Notice that she does let her new friend, Angel, get into the car with her and Bryler, but Makenna keeps her hands on the wheel. I would have intervened had I known what was happening, but I was too busy snapping pictures to realize what was going on. Makenna did it all in such a civilized way with no one arguing with her. What a toot!
The best Makenna saying of the week:
"Momma, come on. You wanna come play babies with me? It will be an adventure!" The look on her face was priceless!
