Hey, It's a Tough World.....

We decided to get up on Saturday and go to the 89er Days Parade. Of course, we got there early so that we could get a good spot. The weather was perfect. Mark packed the drinks and snacks, and we were set for a fun time. Then, the Wagonload of Oklahomans right off the Farm decided that the only spot to be was standing right in front of us, even though there was space as big as Texas all up and down the street. I have no idea why they picked us, but...

Many of the parade entries had candy for the children. The first time some candy was thrown our way, one of the wagonload group, a grown lady in her late thirties, early forties, ran and grabbed all of the candy, leaving none for Makenna or the little two year old boy sitting beside us with his grandparents. I heard the lady's mother yell from behind us to the lady about taking the kids' candy. The lady said, "Hey, it's a tough world," and laughed. Mark and I just looked at each other and cracked up!

Anyway, the kids ended up with plenty of candy, but I couldn't resist taking a picture of the lady and her classic Oklahoma t-shirt. The funniest part is that (in the first picture) I was really trying to just take a picture of Mark and Makenna going on a candy run later in the parade and didn't realize until I downloaded my pictures that I also captured the lady also running for candy, as well as the random man wearing four watches and carrying a spider man halloween bag for his loot. Mark and I look at each other so often here and say, "That's Oklahoma."

Here was another "That's Oklahoma" moment at the parade. Apparently, they decided to shut down Main Street, but not the streets that cross Main. So, every five minutes or so, a policeman would stop the parade and allow the through traffic to cross the intersection.
The reason for the parade is the annual 89ers Days here. The grand finale of the parade was a stretch of covered wagons that traveled down Main Street as far as the eye could see in both directions. It was pretty neat.

There was also a long stretch during the parade of farmers driving their vintage tractors. The wagonload from the farm knew every driver that went by. We had a play by play of....."hey, there's ole Jim Bob.... Look... there's Momma Jenkins... look at her daughter-in-law runnin' down the street to get a good picture of Momma Jenkins on the tractor...ha! ha!... well, there's Joe... I hadn't seen him lately.... look there's a deere john tractor instead of John Deere... that means it weren't made in the U.S...." and on and on. The whole group ran into the street and surrounded a truck/float at one point. The truck stopped and they all got caught up and said their "hellos" while the parade piled up behind. It was hilarious!

This man was pretty cute on his tractor. He looks like he has weathered a few years in that seat.

LITTLE RIVER ZOO KIDS FOR KINDNESS DAY
Sunday we attended the Little River Zoo Kids for Kindness Day. There were little booths with crafts and other kid friendly activities. Makenna was much more interested in playing on the playground than touching the snakes and worms and such. We had a great time.
Makenna got to climb onto the firetruck. She posed for a picture for me in her new outfit that Granny got her. She wanted to make sure that the fireman would not blow the horn while she was on the truck. She says that the horn makes her "bounce." :)
